On February 12, 2015 the amazing John Muir Community had a chance to celebrate our community with a potluck, student art show, musicians entertaining, henna painting, and performances by many of our community groups. Last year the arts team was formed by The Creative Advantage to address the need to provide arts education for all students. Historically there has been a huge gap in the schools that have arts opportunities based on socio economic background. One of the goals of the John Muir arts team was to bring the arts alive at John Muir by celebrating our different cultures and all the talents of our students. It was an inspiring night and we hope to continue engaging our community to celebrate the arts and each other.

Inspired by The Scream by Edvard Munch.

Our first area of focus is abstract art. There are many elements that make up different kinds of artwork and for this first project we are focusing on LINE. The artist Vasily Kandinsky, known as the father of abstract art, is a great example of how artists use line, shape, and color to create their own worlds.
